Semi-truck catches on fire on 32nd street

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – A semi truck caught fire at a local gas station in Yuma this afternoon.

“We got a call around 12:20 p.m.,” said Yuma Metro Fire Brigade Chief Jeff Woodruff. “A semi truck endangering a gas station caught fire and completely engulfed the semi truck and trailer upon arrival.”

The Yuma Rural Metro and Yuma Fire Department responded to the fire call shortly before 12:30 PM.

A cicada caught fire at a Speedway gas station on East 32nd Street.

“This area is still dangerous,” said Yuma Fire Chief Victor Garcia. “Especially the canopy has a lot of damage.”

According to the Rural Metro Fire, there was no major damage to the building, but the awning and several pumps were destroyed.

The cicada driver was not at the scene or near the vehicle when the fire broke out. No deaths or injuries have been reported.

“We have some pictures we’re trying to confirm, but we still don’t know the cause of how the fire started,” Woodruff said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Gas stations try to keep some of their businesses open while cleaning operations continue.
