Sen. Jay Hovey Announces Candidacy for Re-election in Alabama
R-Auburn Senator Jay Hovey, who first joined the Alabama Legislature in 2022, revealed his plans to run for a new term representing the 27th District, which includes parts of Lee, Russell, and Tallapoosa counties, on Thursday.
“As a state senator, I helped secure a kitchen table tax cut by halving the grocery sales tax, bringing additional funding and research opportunities to Auburn University, and advocating for programs that benefit the rural areas in my district,” Hovey stated.
He added, “In my upcoming term in the Alabama Senate, I aim to continue my commitment to the 27th District, delivering a sensible conservative leadership and robust representation that I hope every resident can take pride in.”
Since his election, Hovey has served on the Financial and Tax Education Board, overseeing nearly $10 billion in annual allocations to public universities, including K-12 public schools and community colleges in Alabama, along with Auburn University.
Additionally, he is involved with several committees, including those focused on financial responsibility, economic development, education policy, and more. Hovey also participates in the permanent joint financial and budget legislative committee that reviews state fiscal and financial management strategies.
Originally from Southley County and raised on a family farm in the Marvin community, Hovey previously represented District 7 on the Auburn City Council before deciding to pursue a Senate seat.
He works as a commercial lending officer at Servifulst Bank in Auburn and has actively contributed to the community through various organizations, including the Alabama Small Business Advisory Board, United Way of Lee County, the Kiwanis Club in Auburn, the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Auburn Greens Pace Advisory Board.
Moreover, Hovey’s wife, Anna, is also a prominent community leader, serving as the president and CEO of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and participating in various local committees.
