Senator Cory Booker supports Barbara Drummond for mayor of Mobile

Support for Barbara Drummond from Senator Cory Booker

As the special election approaches on September 23, Barbara Drummond, a candidate for mayor of Mobile and Alabama representative, is garnering attention, this time from Senator Cory Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey.

In a video shared on Drummond’s Facebook page, Booker praised her extensive experience in state government and highlighted her legislative achievements regarding gun violence and economic investment.

“Hi, I’m Cory Booker, and I’m proud to back Barbara Drummond for Mayor of Mobile,” he stated. “She has tackled gun violence by introducing bills for responsible gun storage and stricter penalties for reckless shootings. Moreover, she focuses on addressing the root causes and securing state funding for vocational and technical education programs in Mobile high schools.”

“Drummond is forward-thinking. When it comes to the economy, she implemented a law that not only promotes a fair economy but also mandates tracking and reporting on spending with women and minority-owned businesses. She stands out as the only candidate with real executive experience at various levels—city, county, and state—managed multi-million dollar budgets, and passed important legislation in Montgomery. Drummond shows a comprehensive understanding of how to effect real change in Mobile.”

He concluded, “So please join me in supporting Barbara Drummond for mayor. She represents extraordinary leadership for the community.”

Drummond expressed her gratitude for Booker’s endorsement, saying, “We are thankful for the support from former Mayor Senator Cory Booker. He knows what it takes to make things happen in local government. I am excited about not just sustaining progress in Mobile but also elevating our community to new heights.”

Alongside Booker, Drummond has gained significant endorsements from prominent figures and organizations, including former Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, the SPLC Action Fund, the South Alabama Labor Council, the AFL-CIO, Communication Workers of America Region 3907, the Democratic Mayors Association, former US Senator Doug Jones, and Mobile’s own mayoral candidate, Lawrence Batiste.

On the other hand, Drummond’s opponent, former district judge Spiro Cheriogotis, has secured the endorsement of retiring Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimson.

Since the primary election wrap-up in August, Drummond’s campaign has aimed to build grassroots support.
