Take a desert landscape adventure on a tour of the Broken Arrow Trail, considered one of the best places to ride a 4×4 in Sedona. These off-road jeeps climb huge red rocks with ease, nudge down near-vertical descents, and offer unforgettable views. Plus, there are plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos and hear interesting details about the history of the area, including the film credits of many of the famous Western films.
2. Hike the Adobe Jack Trail
By Sedona standards, this 1.7-mile hike is fairly easy. The route includes the Mogollon Rim, winding mesquite and cypress forests (favorite for cyclists), and striking views of the red rocks. It also intersects with many other trails such as Coyote and Grand Central. Another impressive option is the short and steep Schuurmann Mountain Trail. Here, hikers have the option to continue past wildflowers and basalt rocks, across lava beds, and to the top of Schuurmann Mountain.
3. Go horseback riding
Horseback riding is a great way to enjoy the scenery of the area. Experiences include gentle cowpoke group rides led by experienced wranglers, as well as more bespoke and personalized private tours. Horses follow a winding trail that circles the base of House Mountain in Echo Canyon. This area, called Page Springs, is just nine miles from Sedona and is known as the wine region of Arizona.
4. Ride a hot air balloon
There’s nothing like stepping into a hot air balloon basket, listening to the roar of flames overhead, and slowly rising off the desert floor. It’s well worth waking up before dawn to watch the sun rise from above. Over Sedona. There are many shops in the city where you can rent bike equipment, including mountain bikes and city cruisers. Rentals include bikes, helmets, repair kits, and maps of local trails. Follow the Airy Trail for approximately 6 miles round trip with spectacular views of Bear Mountain, Fay Canyon and Boynton Canyon. Begin your ride at either end of the trail at the Airlie Trailhead or Boynton Canyon Trailhead parking lots.
