Tragic Shooting at Michigan Church
Authorities report at least ten individuals suffered gunshot wounds, with one fatality, following a violent incident during a meeting at the Latter-day Saints’ Church of Jesus Christ in Michigan on Sunday.
According to the Grand Blanc Township Police, a 40-year-old male suspect drove his vehicle into the church entrance before setting it ablaze while preaching. The situation escalated, culminating in the suspect being subdued by an officer.
The fire has mostly been brought under control, but officials fear additional victims may be uncovered amid the wreckage. Investigators are actively searching for motives behind the attack and plan to provide updates later in the day.
Initially, police indicated there were “multiple casualties” and confirmed that the shooter had been neutralized, stating that there were currently “no threats.” At the time of the update, the church was described as “actively burning,” and a nearby area had been established for unified command.
In light of the tragedy, former President Donald Trump commented that the FBI was leading the investigation, suggesting this might be yet another targeted attack against Christians in the U.S.
“Pray for the victims and their families. This epidemic of violence in our country must come to an end,” he said.
Kash Patel, the FBI director, mentioned that agents were at the scene to assist local authorities, referring to incidents of violence in places of worship as both tragic and criminal. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this heartbreaking event,” he stated.
Attorney General Pam Bondi echoed these sentiments, calling the violence “heartbreaking and cold,” and urged for prayers for those affected.
The shooting occurred just a day after the passing of Russell M. Nelson, the church’s 101-year-old president.
