Shark attacks 3 off Florida panhandle waters

Three swimmers, including two teenagers, were attacked by sharks in separate incidents on a Walton County beach on Friday, authorities said.

A 45-year-old woman was bitten by a shark while swimming off a sandbar at Water Sound Beach around 1:20 p.m. The woman suffered severe abdominal injuries and had to have part of her left arm amputated. The woman remains in critical condition at HCA Fort Walton Destin Hospital, according to South Walton Fire Chief Ryan Crawford.

About 90 minutes later, a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl were injured by a shark in waist-deep water near Seacrest Beach. One of the girls sustained serious injuries and was taken by helicopter in critical condition to Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola Hospital, Crawford said.
