‘She’ll Have No Electoral College Paths’: Mark Halperin Warns Harris’ Chances Of Victory Could Be In Jeopardy

Newsmax political analyst Mark Halperin warned Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris could face a situation where she has no realistic path to an Electoral College victory.

Former President Donald Trump is leading Harris in key Sun Belt states including Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. According to A New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday found that if Harris loses those three Sun Belt states, along with Nevada, she has only one path to victory, and even that path could disappear if Nebraska changes how it allocates its electoral votes, Halperin said on “Wake Up America.” (Related: Kamala Harris once thought a border wall was “un-American.” Now she supports it.)

“One of the four Sun Belt states is excluded, but there's reason to believe that's going to be the same in that state. That's what Trump pollsters and strategists were predicting about a month ago, that Trump would reassert the advantage he had in those four Sun Belt states,” Halperin said. “Obviously, if that happens — and I don't know if that's true or not, the Times poll could be an outlier, but if it's true, it would mean Kamala Harris is back to where we were before Joe Biden debated Donald Trump, which is one Electoral College path. Incidentally, if Nebraska changes how it allocates its electoral votes, if the Times poll is correct, Nebraska would have no Electoral College path.”

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten warned in May that Trump's leads in four key Sun Belt states were an “absolute disaster” for President Joe Biden's reelection chances. Biden's path to victory without those states likely hinged on the Rust Belt battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Axios reported. Reported This was shortly before the president dropped out of the race in July.

The Nebraska Republican Party proposed in April to end the practice of awarding two of the five electoral votes to the statewide winner and one vote to the winner of each of Nebraska's three districts. According to According to CNN, if all of Nebraska's electoral votes go to the statewide winner, Trump would likely gain an additional electoral vote.

If Harris wins Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, but loses the Sun Belt state and Nebraska's one vote, the Electoral College result will be a 269-269 tie. According to Newsweek magazine. Twelfth AmendmentIf that happens, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives will be responsible for choosing the next president.
