NOGALES, Arizona (KGUN) — Arizona Governor Doug Ducey wants to close more gaps along the state’s southern border, similar to what happened in Yuma.
He next seeks to close the border gap in Nogales. About 90 shipping containers were taken to the Nogales National Guard facility, according to Santa Cruz Sheriff David Hathaway.
KGUN 9 has asked Governor Ducey’s office about the container, confirmed plans to use the container, and is considering placing it at the border along Santa Cruz, Pima, and Cochise counties.
But Hathaway said shipping containers may not work in Nogales.
“The borders here in Nogales are very different from Yuma. Together we meander up and down our borders—hills and mountains—so I’m not sure that concept would work here,” Hathaway explained.
Ducey’s administration still has to make a decision about what to do with the Nogales container.
