13 On Your Side’s Vanessa Gongola Speaks With Animal Shelter And Explains Why This Kitten Is So Weak
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – On Friday, June 30, around 4pm, a sick two-month-old kitten, Siul, was adopted from a kennel near the front office.
Yuma Humane Society (HSOY) Executive Director Annette Ragunas describes Siuru as a very small, gray and black tabby kitten.
The Humane Society is worried because Siuru may lose an eye if he doesn’t return soon.
“So the eye was badly treated, and with baby kittens, it needs to be removed multiple times if it doesn’t get better,” Ragunas explained. “So our concern is that this poor kitten is not currently under veterinary care and we don’t know what she needs. I sincerely hope that you will return it.”
The Hispanic man and woman, both English speaking, arrived wearing medical scrubs and were asked to complete adoption forms, but did not complete the paperwork.
Sergeant Yuma Police Department (YPD) Lori Franklin said security cameras caught the man walking away with the kitten while the woman was waiting in a dark gray Honda Civic.
“There’s a plate on the front that’s similar to the one in Sonora, Mexico, but again you can’t zoom in enough to get numbers or anything like that,” Franklin said.
Ragunas said YPD’s Facebook page had a tip from a resident that the suspects went straight to Walmart after they kidnapped her.
“My kids and I saw this couple at Walmart that day! We were all holding and cuddling this adorable kitty. So sad!” wrote one local resident.
Raghunas has a message for the suspects.
“At this time, this is a safety and health issue for the cat, and if the cat’s eyes may be causing pain, we are working to ensure that they are properly treated and managed. We need to return the kitten to our care,” Ragunus said.
Ragunas said the suspects could have adopted Siuru and provided him with treatment and medicine, but the shelter did not have the opportunity to do so.
