ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith officially said he has “opened all the doors” on X on Monday despite “thinking about being a politician.”
Speculation about the host of “The Stephen A. Smith Show” began in February when he said he would run as a Democrat if he was forced, despite not wanting to run. While rejecting reports on potential runs, Smith took him to X on Monday afternoon, I wrote it He links to an article about his chances of taking office, which means it’s “time to stop messing up.”
“Life is great, especially at ESPN/Disney. I hate the idea of being a politician. But I’m tired of this mess. That’s why I keep all the doors open,” Smith wrote.
Smith appeared on stage at a show in Las Vegas national broadcaster. There, McVay’s media president Mike McVay asked him about his potential presidential goals. According to Go to Bullet Media.
“I don’t want to do that,” Smith said. “I’m living a pretty good life right now. Life was good. The last thing I want to do is to get myself involved in politics.”
“I always perceive politicians as professional be-eating. I don’t say it demeaning or anything like that. It’s just a reality. You’re always putting your hands on something. People always need favor. I’m not that guy.
A January poll conducted by McLaughlin & Associates said Smith held 2% of voter support for the 2028 presidential bid, with former vice president Kamala Harris leading 33%. But Democrat critic James Kerrville said Smith “don’t know his butt through the hole in the ground,” adding that he should leave politics to his job.
Smith said he has rethinked his stance in recent weeks, adding, “We have no choice but to be more serious about it.” (Related: Tim Waltz is still trying to explain how badly his party failed in 2024)

“I was approached by the people of Capitol Hill, people who were elected to serve, whether governor or mayor, and people justly, seriously asked me about it.
“I’m going to keep my options open. I’ll entertain the possibilities. If I’m coming in late 2026, 2027, I’d look at this country and think it’s an absolute confusion and there’s a good reason to believe… I mean I actually have a legitimate shot to win the US presidency. I’m not going to dominate it.”
Since the 2024 election cycle, Smith has criticized Democrats, particularly what he said, as his lack of rhetoric and appeal to the majority of voters. In a recent episode of his show, Smith said he suspects California Gov. Gavin Newsom could win a 2028 presidential bid due to his lack of state leadership.
Democrats have struggled to unify behind the message since November 2024, and there is no clear leader to bring voters together. According to a CNN/SSRS poll released on March 16, more than 30% of respondents said they could not name Democrats who “bestly reflect the core values” of the party.
