Sierra Vista, Arizona — The Henry Hauser Museum takes visitors back in time with exhibits of Jurassic wonders.
Exhibits include over 500 fossils and models. Cochise County fossil collector Ron Hyde loaned part of his collection to the museum for this showcase.
“It’s very important for people to know about the prehistoric life that was here because without that knowledge people would say, ‘Oh, Sierra Vista was founded in 1955, before that it was actually Because we tend to think that there was no history,” and that’s simply not true,” Hyde said.
He has been collecting fossils for over 30 years and has over 500 fossils in his collection. He loaned 504 of his bodies to museums for display, 100 of which were found in Cochise County.
Hyde and museum curator Elizabeth Rosek have agreed to do a local exhibit showcasing what Cochise County and other areas were like before people built cities and towns. Larger fossils found within the county were moved to Phoenix and Tucson and displayed in larger cities.
Among the exhibits are mammoth fur and teeth, dinosaur eggs and bones, and various animal fossils.
“The community seems very excited about this,” said Wrosek. You either have to drive farther or pay for it, so it’s really nice to have it for free here in Sierra Vista. “
The exhibition opens on Saturdays and runs all summer long.
