TUCSON, Arizona (KGUN) — The US Senate Subcommittee on Government Administration and Border Control will hear testimony Wednesday from two mayors of southern Arizona about the impact of increased immigration in border areas.
Sierra Vista Mayor Claire McCar and Yuma Mayor Douglas Nichols share their experiences as border leaders.
Also present is Pima County Deputy County Administrator and Chief Medical Officer Francisco Garcia.

McCaa attended a border roundtable with Congress and local leaders in April. The discussion, led by Senator Kirsten Cinema, who also chairs the subcommittee, largely focused on cartels recruiting teen drivers through social media platforms.
McCaa cautioned against driving fast on neighborhood streets, saying it was becoming a quality-of-life issue in the Sierra Vista and was affecting his own family.
“I represent about 50,000 people in the Sierra Vista, and one chase… ended up being less than 500 feet (about 500 feet) from the school district? McCaa said the crash happened near his mother’s house, making the matter very personal to him.
“I hear it every night. Cars, cars, cars. I know it’s a chase. And I’m just waiting for the Chief.” [of Police Adam Thrasher] To call my phone and say, “Hey, there’s another death,” McCaa said at a roundtable.
“I just—I don’t know what to do. Chief is doing a great job. Sheriff. [Mark Dannels] do a great job. But we just need help. ”
