Northern Arizona golfer Elena Slater led the pack at Sunday’s home event of the Lumberjacks and won the individual championship at the Red Rocks Invitational at Sedona’s Oak Creek Country Club (par 72, 6,200). bottom. Freshman Slater won the tournament by two strokes in the third round, where he shot 70 (-2) and made the 54-hole score 212 (-4).
Slater shot 69 in the first round and 73 in the second on the opening day of the tournament. She scored her five birdies in Sunday’s final round, including one on her 18 on to lock in the win. He is the fourth Northern Arizona golfer to win his tournament, the home of the Lumberjacks, after Erko Kurkova last season.
As a team, NAU finished tied for seventh with California Baptiste after shooting 895 (+31) over 54 holes.
Navy won the team title, scoring 880 (+16).
Alexandra Checarina was NAU’s second best scorer, finishing 33rd with a 226 (+4).

Laurel Hayward finished tied for 66th with a score of 233 (+3). Ashley Croft finished tied for her 78th place and saved her best her round last in her 74 (+2) round on Sunday. In all, she shot her 235 (+2) in her 54 holes.
Lumberjacks will be back in action on April 3rd at the Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa.
Athletics
The NAU Athletics team earned two Big Sky Athlete of the Week honors after a successful weekend in Phoenix.
Drew Bosley was named the Big Sky Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for his event-winning performance at the GCU Invitational. His time of 13:37.77 in his 5K is his best NCAA time this season.
John Murphy was named Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for winning the event with a 64.75 hammer throw. Murphy’s throw put him at the top of Big Sky and 12th in the nation.
Lumberjack will compete in the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson starting Friday.
