A former high school snowboard coach has filed a federal lawsuit alleging he was fired for speaking out about an athlete who identified as transgender, reports say. federalist.

Former high school coach David Block reportedly waited with the team at a ski lodge for the women’s team, which was due to play against biological men in the women’s division.

Bloch allegedly participated briefly after hearing two student-athletes discuss the subject. Biology is important because men and women develop differently and men generally have a competitive advantage over women in athletics. According to the complaint, the conversation was respectful, lasted no more than three minutes, and did not take place near the snowboarder who identified as transgender.

The next day, the coach is said to have received a dismissal notice.
