Soccer Returns Home for Matchups with New Mexico and Southern Utah

Flagstaff, Arizona (September 18, 2024) – The Lumberjacks' week-long hiatus ends Thursday as NAU (0-4-2) returns to Flagstaff for a pair of games at Lumberjack Stadium, hosting New Mexico (4-1-1) on Thursday night and Southern Utah (1-5-2) on Sunday afternoon.

Thursday night's game will kick off Astrojacks, NAU Athletics' new alternate identity campaign. Fans can expect unique fan experiences and entertainment, including space-themed music, the first-ever “Crowd Constellation” smartphone light show, fun contests and special fan giveaways for interstellar fun all night long. The first 150 students will receive an Astrojacks hat and the first 150 fans will receive an Astrojacks football landing patch. Fans will also receive Astrojacks posters, stickers and photos with Bluey the space cow.

NAU is back after a three-game losing streak and will look to end that streak with a win against the Lobos on Thursday night. NAU will be looking for its first win of the season with two games remaining before Big Sky action. NAU currently has a .386 shooting percentage and has attempted 57 total shots this season. The Jacks have held opponents to a .122 shooting percentage through their first six games this year.

Trinity Corcoran Coming off a 10-save night at Grand Canyon that would have tied his career high and set a new season high, Corcoran has made 36 saves this season and leads the Big Sky Conference in save percentage at .818.

For New Mexico, Presley DeVey scored the game-winning goal in three games (UCR, Oregon, San Diego) and Ellie Robinson scored the game-winning goal in one game (vs. UTEP). Natalie Dehgani has an assist in three of the past five games and has a point in four games this season, including a goal in the season opener. In all three of UNM's wins, the Lobos scored first in the game and held the lead until halftime. Only in the game against UTEP did the Lobos have to come back from behind.

Southern Utah will travel to Flagstaff for the first time since the 2021 season and for the first time since leaving the Big Sky to join the WAC. Last season's matchup between the two programs in Cedar City saw the Thunderbirds draw 0-0 with Big Sky opponent Idaho State and lose 3-0 on a trip to Boise State. Whitney Gardner did not play for the Thunderbirds at Boise State but still led the team with two goals and three assists.
