Sofia Vergara was quick to avoid ridicule, silencing an interviewer who tried to make fun of her accent.
The famous actress appeared on the Spanish chat show El Hormiguero on Tuesday and spoke with the show's host Pablo Motos. Vergara talked about her upcoming miniseries when she mentioned her past role on “Modern Family.” Motos asked her to repeat her “Modern Family” words again, seemingly making fun of her accent, which Vergara didn't understand. She ingratiated him by promoting her own accomplishments and belittling him in front of her audience.
“What do you call Modern Family?” Motos asked her.
Ms. Vergara looked visibly confused for a moment, but then retorted, “Oh, because you speak better English than me?”
Her wit and sarcasm immediately drew laughter and applause from the audience.
Without missing a beat, Vergara changed Motos' instructions.
She went on to list the many accomplishments and accolades she received from her work, and told Motos exactly who he was messing with.
“How many times have you been nominated for an Emmy Award in America?” she asked.

“How many times have Golden Globes nominated you?” she said, firing at the interviewer.
Motos sat quietly for a moment, looking completely stunned. He then went on to say at length, “The Golden Globe is a minor award. It doesn't matter to me in the slightest.”
Despite coming in with a one-liner, Vergara was already dominating the exchange and clearly coming out on top. (Related: 'I was lucky': Sofia Vergara reveals what she did to distract herself from divorce from Joe Manganiel)
