SoulGrown Alabama introduces ‘AFIELD,’ a podcast highlighting southern stories and outdoor experiences.

Afield Podcast Launches in Alabama

The YHN Media Group has announced a new podcast titled “Afield,” introduced by Gusto Hunting. This show aims to explore the diverse landscapes of Alabama’s outdoors, going beyond the typical studio environment.

Christian Russel, an award-winning Southern writer, hosts the podcast. It highlights the voices of individuals who live, create, and work to protect Alabama’s forests, fields, and farmlands.

“The listeners who are passionate about our land want to see it cared for,” stated Courtney Hancock, CEO of SoulGrown. She added that the podcast emerged from a desire to provide more engaging content for their audience, especially focusing on conservation efforts in Alabama.

“Soul Grown’s readers are committed to land stewardship, so launching a podcast felt like a natural way to delve deeper into these topics with the state’s leading experts,” she explained.

The inaugural episode features Vaughn Purcell Spanjer, an acclaimed wildlife artist and native of Alabama. Spanjer shares personal insights from her life connected to the land while working from her sunlit studio at the 3,200-acre Pursell Farms.

Listeners will also hear about her journey from a barefoot childhood to gaining recognition in New York’s art circles, alongside her struggles and triumphs.

Upcoming episodes will feature well-known figures, including James Beard Award finalists Rob McDaniel and Marilyn Vetter, alongside Pam Swanner from Alabama’s Black Belt.

Every episode continues the podcast’s mission: to explore our relationship with nature and how it shapes our lives, creativity, and connections.

You can tune in to the first episode as well as future episodes on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
