‘Sounded Like A Bomb’: Firefighters Rescue 12 After Possible Explosion, Fire Rips Through Detroit Apartment

Twelve people, including six children, were rescued Monday after possible explosions and fires in their Detroit apartment, officials said.

The potential building explosion and fire occurred around 4am, with more than 60 first responders being called to the scene. I said Reporter.

Six adults and six children were injured, leaving three in danger from burns. The three seriously injured people lived in the same unit, Sims confirmed.

“When I arrived, some people tried to jump out the window,” Sims told reporters. “They were hanging and hanging from the windows on the south side of the building, ready to jump, and of course they managed to save all 12 of them.”

Sims said the 30-year-old man suffered severe burns to 90% of his body. The 27-year-old woman was also in danger after being burned in 20-40% of her body, he added. A 3-year-old girl also suffered burns to 15% of her body.

A CBS Detroit video report showed workers were destroying the building. Firefighters determined the structure was too dangerous for residential use, according to the outlet.

Ashley Rydner, who lived in the building with her five-month-old son and boyfriend, recalled the incident. Interview with ClickOndetroit.

“It sounded like a bomb,” she said.

Rydner said her boyfriend complained of the smell of gas before going to bed that night. She told the outlet that they were forced to escape the fire through the apartment window as the doors in front and behind them were sealed for fire.

“It was hard to leave, but we left,” she recalled.

Rydoner climbed out of the window and injured his leg, and his boyfriend injured his arm while he looked at his son safely.

“All our belongings are in our home. Our car has been destroyed,” she said. “Our life is there. I don’t know what they expect us to do next.”
