Republican Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina collapsed during an event in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night and was hospitalized, his office said.
The 77-year-old congressman, who has represented South Carolina's 2nd District since 2001, fell ill while attending a Ukrainian Independence Day celebration. According to He received immediate medical attention from medics at the scene before being transported to a local hospital.

“Doctors have confirmed that he experienced stroke-like symptoms. I spoke with him earlier and he is extremely grateful that he is in stable condition and is being monitored by medical professionals,” Alan wrote. Wilson's wife was by his side at the hospital.

Following the news, members of South Carolina's congressional delegation also voiced their support.

Wilson was seen taking part in a vote on the House floor that day and joking with reporters, NBC News reported. ReportedWilson recently returned from a series of overseas visits as part of his duties as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia.
