TUCSON, Ariz. (13News) – A southern Arizona woman is facing more than 140 animal cruelty charges after an investigation.
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office announced that Jill Houchens, 56, was arrested on Monday, February 19th and charged with 27 felonies and 119 misdemeanors.
CCSO said agents found “several abandoned animals living in extremely poor conditions” with “little or no water available for any of the animals and no food left.” He said he had discovered it.
A total of 24 animals were removed from the property, five of which died.
“Eight animals required medical attention for several issues, including but not limited to embedded nails, infections, and severe matting,” CCSO said in a release. “All 19 live animals are currently being held as evidence pending the determination of this lawsuit.”
CCSO said Houchens may have been providing animal rescue or sitting services in the county.
