YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma delegation of the Arizona Special Olympics held its track and field event on Saturday. The competition ran from 9am to noon at the Cibola High School track.
Participants competed in a variety of games including 100-meter race, softball throw, shot put and 4×100 relay.
There were also prizes such as gold, silver and bronze medals for the top three winners of the games. Not only that, there were also ribbons for the 4th and 5th place winners.
All in all, this competition is a stepping stone to an even bigger event coming up next month.
“From May 4th to May 6th, we are bringing the entire track and field team to Glendale, Arizona for the state competition. It takes us to the states, to compete,” said Kelly Smith, head of the delegation.
Asked what kind of message he would send to people interested in sports like track and field, Smith said that if you have a child who wants to enjoy sports, make friends, or participate in the Special Olympics: says. team, she encourages them to do so.
