Squire Patton Boggs Foundation Welcomes Record 30 Fellows into 2023 Fellowship Class | 06 | 2023 | News

The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation is proud to announce its 2023 Fellows. On May 31, the Foundation welcomed 30 brilliant and dedicated law and public policy students to the program. This is the largest fellowship class in the Foundation’s history.

Since its inception in 2005, the Fellowship Program has awarded summer fellowships each year to 356 outstanding law and public policy students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to public service. This year’s Fellows come from 19 US law schools and European public policy institutes.

Fellows dedicate their summers to advancing legal and public policy issues through internships at non-profit, government, and national or international organizations. This year’s fellowship locations range from Brussels to Los Angeles, San Francisco to Miami, with many in Ohio and Washington, DC, among others.

Foundation President John Oberdorfer welcomed the 2023 Fellows and commended them for their dedication and the incredible scope of their fellowships. Five are with the public defender’s office, several are with US government departments, several work on youth and children issues, and three work on human rights issues. And some are about closing the gaps in access to justice. In the words of the late Rep. John Lewis, he commended them for following their heartfelt and highest mission.

“The Fellowship Program promotes the vital role of public service in legal practice by engaging, inspiring, and financially supporting law students to become the next generation of public interest advocates and leaders in the United States and around the world. So it’s very special,” said Oberdorfer. “We are very proud of our class of 2023.”

Foundation Chairman and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater added: “For nearly 20 years, the Fellowship Program has provided opportunities for students seeking to engage in public service during the law school summer term. “We are pleased to partner with 20 schools in the Dean’s Circle to advance civil service careers.”

The Foundation proudly introduces the 2023 Fellows and corresponding Summer Internships.
