According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, drivers who normally use State Route 89A in areas north of uptown Sedona should allow extra travel time due to the scheduled highway closures from June 20-28. It is said that it is necessary to plan the use of detours.
SR 89A, between Owenby Way and Migley Bridge Picnic Area near Uptown Sedona, will be closed Tuesday-Thursday June 20-22 from 6am-4pm and Tuesday June 27th. and will also be closed on Wednesday, June 28th. .
This closure is necessary for safety while the crew performs rockfall mitigation operations as part of the ongoing SR 89A improvement project in the area.
Drivers, including those planning to travel to Slide Rock State Park and other Oak Creek Canyon destinations, should take the following detours during the SR 89A closure.
Northbound Diversion: Sedona area drivers can take northbound Interstate 17 from southbound SR 179 to southbound SR 89A at the JW Powell Interchange (Flagstaff Airport exit). increase.
Southbound Detour: Drivers in the Flagstaff area can reach Sedona via southbound I-17 and northbound SR 179.
SR 89A will be open to traffic at night on days when it needs to be closed for construction. Lane restrictions and pilot vehicle operations are currently in place along the highway north of Sedona from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays in June.
