Sedona Red Rock High School will hold its annual Winter Concert and Student Showcase on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to celebrate art and student accomplishments. Photo and art exhibits in the lobby begin at 5 p.m., followed by an orchestral performance at 6 p.m.
“One of the reasons you should come out is because we work with the community,” said Cody McKesson, orchestra and music teacher. “When you participate, you will be entered into drawings from local businesses offering free services. One is details of a fully automatic car to win or a horseback ride through Sedona’s trails, and the other is a guided star tour. There were a few artists who brought in local art portraits for the event, and there’s a lot of communities that raffle off their own just because they’re going to the concert.”
The theme of the concert is “Dashing Through Sedona,” and holiday music will be performed by middle and high school students.
This middle school group is the most advanced of any middle school I have taught at this school over the past two years,” Mr. McKesson said. “I’m looking forward to going and seeing how much that progress grows over the spring and into next year.”
The program includes Jacques Offenbach’s “Barcarolle,” a Russian dance from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” a Christmas medley, Cooper Ford’s “Exhilaration,” and Brian Balmage’s “Velocity” and “Momentous.” Included. The solo performer is Logan Jankowski in Camille Saint-Saens’ “L’Élephant.” Cristian Cordova in Modest Mussorgsky’s “Un Larme.” and Zoe Morgan in William Lyons’ “Goblin Dance.” Lotus Flores and McKesson performed Florence Price’s “Adoration,” while Kayleigh MacLean, Christian Mendos, Juni Spielman, Teddy Arizmendi, Harper Holland, Phoebe Jones, Luke Metzger and Kasyn Burke performed ” Sing “Carol of the Bells.”
“This is one of the things that can bring the community together even more. [to] Show your students the hard work they’ve put in,” McKesson said. “If you like holiday music, if you like classical music, you’re going to be satisfied. If you want to feel included in the community, come here and enjoy their show.”
