According to a release from the Baldwin County Legislative Delegation, Rep. Jennifer Fidler (R-Silver Hill), representing Baldwin County's 94th District, is supporting the Better Business Bureau's fraud prevention efforts through grant contributions made through the state's Community Service Grant Program.
The Alabama Community Service Grant Program is funding allocated to lawmakers to be used for education and community improvement projects and organizations within their districts.
Earlier this year, Reps. Fidler, Givens and Holk-Jones hosted a fraud seminar for their constituents titled, “Empower Yourself and Don’t Become a Victim of Scams.” The fraud seminar featured topics from local law enforcement including the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Educational Foundation, the Alabama Securities Commission, the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission Medicaid Fraud Section, AARP and the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office.
The seminars taught participants tools to find reputable businesses, how to spot scams, what to do if you encounter fraudulent activity, and what to do if you become a victim of a scam. Now, with the support of a $6,000 Community Services Grant, the BBB Education Foundation can provide the videos that residents can watch at any time from the comfort of their own home.
“It is important that citizens are educated about the tools available to them, the types of scams currently being perpetrated, and the notification procedures to use if they fall victim to a fraudulent activity,” said Rep. Fidler. “This video will not only be helpful to voters in Baldwin County, but to people across the state of Alabama.”
The video is Available online Through the BBB website.
