State Representative from Tucson formally resigns

TUCSON, Ariz. (13News) – Rep. Andrés Cano formally submitted his resignation from the Arizona House of Representatives to House Speaker Ben Thoma today, July 4.

Kano was the representative of the Tucson District 20.

In his resignation letter, Kano said, “It has been the honor of my life to represent the people of District 20 and serve as House Minority Leader. I look forward to moving on to the next chapter.

Kano announced that he is expected to resign from Congress in May after being accepted to the Harvard Kennedy School for a master’s degree in public administration.

His one-year program begins on July 11th.

Kano was elected to the state legislature in 2018. He was re-elected in 2020 and he in 2022. Prior to his resignation, Kano also served on the board of the He LGBTQ+ Alliance Foundation, an initiative of the Southern Arizona Community Foundation. From 2012 to 2018, Cano served as assistant to the late Pima County Superintendent Richard Elias.
