The extreme heat warning will remain in effect until 9pm Friday as temperatures rise several degrees above normal. More records will be at stake by the weekend…
Continue to limit the time you go out and try to stay hydrated. If you work outdoors, take frequent shade breaks and wear sunscreen if you are outside for more than 15-20 minutes. Do not leave children or pets in the vehicle. Also, don’t forget to protect your dog’s paws by keeping them away from hot surfaces during the afternoon.
Excessive heat warnings include low elevation areas of Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, Graham and Greenlee counties. The temperature range is 104° to 115°. Heat will have the biggest impact on weather throughout the week and into the weekend. Also remember that one less spark means one less wildfire, as the wind blows from time to time.
All thunderstorm activity will remain south of the border as the anticyclone itself forms overhead over the next few days, but that will change later this week. Humidity will slowly return to southeastern Arizona as the anticyclone heads east, with a slight increase in thunderstorm activity likely south and east of Tucson this weekend, and likely here early next week. . Unfortunately, these storms don’t bring much rain, as moisture builds up slowly and dry thunderstorms can spark new wildfires. This threat will continue until next week…
