Stephen A. Smith Condemns Celebration of Charlie Kirk’s Assassination
On “The Stephen A. Smith Show” on SiriusXM, Stephen A. Smith criticized those who expressed satisfaction over the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, which occurred during an event at Utah Valley University (UVU) on Wednesday.
During his show, Smith addressed the tragedy, noting that Kirk was only 31 and left behind a wife and two young children. He expressed his outrage towards those who found joy in such a devastating event. “I don’t care about his political views,” Smith stated. “What matters is that a man was shot in front of his kids, who are both under five years old.” He emphasized the impact on Kirk’s family, saying, “His wife is now a widow, and his children have lost their father simply because his beliefs differed from someone else’s.”
Smith’s emotion was palpable as he called out online celebrations of the assassination. “Shame on those people! I’m embarrassed!” he exclaimed.
Meanwhile, MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd suggested on the “Katie Tar Report” that Kirk’s so-called “hate speech” was directly linked to the violent act against him. He called Kirk one of the most divisive figures, claiming he consistently pushed harmful rhetoric against certain groups.
In response to the backlash, MSNBC swiftly reassigned Dowd, labeling his comments as “inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable.” Dowd himself later apologized, clarifying that he did not mean to suggest that Kirk was responsible for the shooting.
As the investigation unfolds, a gunshot was fired during Kirk’s speech, captured in a video that surfaced online, showing him discussing topics like mass shootings and transgender ideology moments before chaos erupted.
The FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office has released surveillance images of potential suspects in the case, and officials reported finding ammunition in a nearby wooded area.
