Stephen Miller spearheads GOP effort linking Democrats to ‘domestic terrorists’

Political Rhetoric Escalates in Washington

President Trump stirred the political landscape during his initial campaign by branding his opponents as enemies of the country. Recently, this combative language has intensified, particularly from his close advisor, Stephen Miller.

This past weekend, Miller described what he called “a massive, growing movement of left-wing terrorism” in the U.S. He argued that this phenomenon is exacerbating national division, claiming it’s protected by far-left judges and legal professionals.

According to Miller, “the only remedy” is to utilize “legitimate national power” to dismantle these so-called terrorist networks.

His comments come as he wields significant influence over federal policies, having pushed the government’s powers in unprecedented directions, challenging the traditional ideas of policing and civil liberties.

Specifically, Miller pointed to an ongoing federal crackdown in Portland, Oregon, asserting that the administration has the authority to safeguard federal property and personnel. This rhetoric has also extended to other Trump advisors, who are using the current government shutdown to justify threats against federal employees.

Russ Vought, the head of the Office of Management and Budget, has echoed these sentiments, sharing an AI-generated video that portrays a chaotic environment where bureaucrats are sidelined during the shutdown.

Trump’s stated goal seems to be targeting Democrats directly.

As of Monday afternoon, it remained unclear exactly how many federal employees were affected or which agencies would see cuts.

“We hope people won’t lose their jobs, but if the shutdown continues, layoffs might be unavoidable,” White House spokesperson Karoline Levitt warned during a briefing.

Judicial Challenges to Administration Actions

This past weekend, a federal judge, appointed by Trump, criticized the administration’s reasoning for deploying California State Guard troops in Portland, deeming their justification “simply ignored by the facts.”

Judge Karin Imargat emphasized that American tradition resists governmental overreach, particularly against civilians, and argued that this should not be a situation of martial law.

The administration plans to contest the judge’s ruling, asserting confidence in its legal authority. Levitt remarked, “We believe that our arguments will prevail in court.”

If the court aligns with the administration, Levitt reassured local leaders—many of whom are Democrats—that there shouldn’t be concern over extended military presence in their cities.

She posed, “Why should they fear federal support aimed at enhancing the safety of their communities?” highlighting ongoing violence in those areas.

In the Oval Office, Trump expressed a willingness to invoke the Rebellion Act if he feels it’s necessary, saying, “We need to ensure our cities are secure.”

This Act provides the President with broad powers to deploy military forces in times of civil unrest, a measure last utilized during the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

Over the weekend, Miller took his rhetoric further, accusing Democrats of colluding with “domestic terrorists” to reverse Trump’s electoral victory.

During a CNN interview, Miller affirmed that the administration would attempt to circumvent the judge’s orders as long as they remain in effect.

Other Republicans have adopted similar language following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah. Representative Derrick Van Orden claimed a post from California’s governor had crossed the line into “domestic terrorism,” while Representative Randy Fine equated demands for more health benefits during the shutdown to terrorist actions.

“I don’t negotiate with terrorists,” Fine asserted on Newsmax.

Targeting Donor Networks

Two weeks after Trump labeled a left-wing anti-fascist group as a “domestic terrorist organization,” some are questioning the legal validity of such classifications.

The executive order initiated a campaign against political adversaries and indicated investigations into individuals financing these groups, particularly those associated with ANTIFA.

Levitt noted that the administration is “actively” pursuing those who financially support these entities.

Trump has hinted at investigating figures like George Soros, a billionaire known for backing various liberal causes. “Soros is behind everything,” he remarked during a recent Oval Office appearance.

While details on the donor investigations remain scant, Levitt assured that efforts to uncover the sources of funding against the government are ongoing, saying, “We are dedicated to getting to the bottom of this.”
