Stephen Moore says dismissing Cook’s accusations is ‘absurd’

Moore Questions Allegations Against Cook

Stephen Moore, a former economic adviser to Donald Trump, expressed doubts on CNN’s “The Lead” regarding the allegations against Lisa Cook, a former Federal Reserve governor. He described their dismissal as “silly.”

Trump announced Cook’s departure from her role, citing documents from a former Fed employee claiming she resides in two states. When asked if he felt apprehensive about his views or Trump’s alleged pressure on Cook, Moore remarked, “This is a very serious issue.” He emphasized the notion of innocence until proven guilty but acknowledged the gravity of the situation if the allegations prove true.

“We know the pitfalls of the housing crisis in 2008,” Moore added, referencing the deceit surrounding mortgage applications that contributed to the crisis. He argued that such actions shouldn’t be considered minor offenses.

On Truth Social, Trump urged Cook to resign following a statement from Bill Prute, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, who referred allegations of mortgage fraud to the Department of Justice. Trump’s letter outlined claims regarding Cook’s residency documentation, suggesting a conflict in her stated primary residences.

Tapper pointed out that Cook has not been formally charged by the DOJ. Moore responded, acknowledging the allegations against her and suggested that clarifying her situation would be relatively straightforward.

Cook was nominated to the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors by President Joe Biden in 2022, as recommended by Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. Interestingly, similar mortgage fraud allegations are also being investigated against California Senator Adam Schiff, indicating she isn’t alone in such scrutiny.
