Steve Bannon, a former adviser to President Trump, called for his release from prison on Thursday.
in FilingBannon's lawyers argued that circumstances have changed since the court last ordered him to report to prison. Bannon has been in prison since July, serving a four-month sentence after being convicted of contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena from the committee on Jan. 6.

“Mr. Bannon's case is strengthened by the subsequent developments described above – namely, the realistic prospect that the D.C. Circuit will either find him guilty en banc on the central issues in the case or issue a dissent from dismissal. In any event, this case raises significant issues that would demonstrate that Mr. Bannon should not have to serve his full sentence before his case can be heard en banc before the D.C. Circuit or the Supreme Court,” Thursday's filing said.

Bannon was convicted in 2022 but his sentence was initially put on hold pending an appeal. After the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit upheld his conviction in May, U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump appointee, granted the government's motion to have Bannon serve his prison time.
The Supreme Court denied a stay of his sentence in late June.
“If bail is not to be reimposed pending appeal, the court should instead impose a period of probation,” Bannon's lawsuit states.
Bannon said he was “proud” to be entering prison ahead of his inauguration in July.
“If this is what it takes to stand up to tyranny, if this is what it takes to stand up to Garland's corrupt and criminal Department of Justice, if this is what it takes to stand up to Nancy Pelosi, if this is what it takes to stand up to Joe Biden, then I'm proud to do it,” he said.
