Steve Marshall Announces Senate Run in 2026
Alabama’s Attorney General, Steve Marshall, declared on Thursday his intention to run for the U.S. Senate in 2026. This announcement sets the stage for a competitive race to succeed former Senator Tommy Tuberville, who has recently shifted his focus to a gubernatorial campaign in Alabama.
Marshall, in his second term as attorney general and with a background as a prosecutor, made his candidacy official with a launch of his campaign website and a promotional video released this morning.
Marshall’s Campaign Message
“I’m running,” he stated. “It’s a lifetime honor to serve as Attorney General. We’ve taken bold actions for Alabama and our country.” He emphasized a desire to continue his work, which he believes aligns with President Trump’s agenda, focusing on border security, community safety, economic stability, and the importance of maintaining the strength of the middle class.
He expressed gratitude toward Senator Tuberville for his service and indicated a commitment to carrying on the conservative values that represent Alabama in Congress.
Campaign Strategy
In an initial 30-second ad, Marshall positions himself as a defender of Alabama values on the national stage, featuring endorsements from Donald Trump.
Marshall’s platform is rooted in hardline conservative priorities, including tax cuts, deregulation, making Trump-era tax reductions a permanent fixture, fiscal reforms, and restructuring the military to focus on conservative principles.
At 60 years old, Marshall has served as Alabama’s attorney general since being appointed in 2017. He was elected to the position twice after previously holding the role of district attorney in Marshall County, where he earned a reputation as a tough prosecutor.
With his formal announcement today, Marshall enters the race as a leading candidate as other potential contenders start to emerge.
Among those vying for the Republican nomination are U.S. Representative Barry Moore and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, who have ties to Alabama’s agricultural community. The Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
