Steve Marshall: Trump’s new crime initiative in D.C. follows Alabama’s successful strategy in Montgomery

Alabama AG Steve Marshall Applauds Trump’s Crime-Fighting Efforts

Alabama’s Attorney General, Steve Marshall, is expressing his belief that President Donald Trump is taking cues from Alabama in addressing crime in Washington, D.C.

Recently, Trump announced that he has taken control of the metropolitan police in D.C. and plans to deploy 800 National Guards to the capital by Monday.

“This is DC’s release day; we’re going to regain our capital,” Trump told reporters. He characterized the situation as one where “violent gangs, bloodthirsty criminals, rioters, drug-related issues, and homelessness” have overtaken the city.

Marshall, who is also campaigning for a U.S. Senate seat in the 2026 election, commended Trump’s announcement and likened it to his own initiatives in Montgomery.

“Montgomery’s MACS unit demonstrates how strict leadership can mitigate crime,” Marshall stated. “It leads to safer streets and a stronger sense of community. Now, President Trump appears to be applying a similar approach to law and order in D.C.”

The Metro Area Crime Control Unit (MACS) was launched on June 24, 2024, with the goal of reducing crime and enhancing public safety in Montgomery and its surroundings.

Governor Kay Ivey noted in June that the unit has effectively tackled crime in Alabama’s capital. She remarked, “The results speak for themselves. We’ve seen a decline in violent crime, and more individuals are behind bars in Montgomery due to this collaborative anti-crime effort initiated a year ago.”

“Utilizing resources from the Metro Area Crime Control Unit to boost surveillance and enforcement has produced encouraging outcomes. Montgomery recently reported a 30% decrease in violent crime and a 19% decline in overall crime rates.”
