Popular ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s is facing backlash following a July 4 tweet that suggested the US would promise to return “stolen native land.”
“On July 4th of this year, the time has come for the United States to recognize its presence on stolen Indigenous land and commit to return it.” brand tweeted.
The company also pasted a link to a page on its website, doubling down on the idea that stealing Native American land is an “essential truth” about America. The tweet sparked immediate outrage and calls for an online boycott.
