Storeowner Traps Thief Under Door Shutters After Attempted Robbery

A British suspect tried to rob a store with a knife, but the owner locked the thug inside, according to the New York Post.

Martin Trimble, 30, is accused of entering a convenience store last month, stealing four packs of beer and threatening the owner with a knife, according to the NYP. The store owner quickly fled and locked Mr. Trimble inside the store with the door closed until police arrived. (Related: Video of saleswoman fending off would-be robbers with her knife)

The store owner then shuttered the store to prevent thieves from escaping, the newspaper reported.

Trimble reportedly pushed his way again, trying to slip through the front door and out of the store before the shutters were fully closed. But the shutters were already too low for thieves to escape, so Trimble was left half-occupied inside the store.

Officers arrived three minutes after being called and arrested Trimble, who had a beer while he was waiting for the officers.

“This wasn’t the hardest arrest we’ve ever made. To be honest, it was an open and closed case,” said Durham Police Sergeant Paul Mawson.

Trimble was arrested on Friday for attempted robbery and knife possession and was sentenced to three years in prison.
