Rep. Dale Strong Confirms Reelection Bid for House
On Wednesday, U.S. Representative Dale Strong announced that he will run for reelection to the House of Representatives in 2026, putting to rest any speculation about a potential candidacy for the open U.S. Senate seat in Alabama.
“After thoughtful consideration and prayer, I believe the best way to serve Alabama is to remain in the U.S. House,” Strong (R-Huntsville) stated. “Thus, I am seeking reelection in 2026 and have no interest in other positions.”
Strong currently represents Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District, having been elected to the House in 2022 following a decade as chairman of the Madison County Commission.
He is a member of the House Budget Committee and actively participates in three major subcommittees, which include roles related to commerce, justice, science, transportation, housing, and urban development. He also chairs the Homeland Security Emergency Management and Technology Subcommittee.
“It has been incredibly rewarding to represent North Alabama in Washington,” Strong mentioned. “I want to be where I feel guided and continue advocating for my community.”
This announcement comes on the heels of U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville’s disclosure that he will not seek reelection and instead plans to run for Governor of Alabama in 2026.
Tuberville (R-Auburn), who began serving in the Senate in 2020, confirmed he will complete his term, which concludes in January 2027.
His decision paves the way for a competitive Republican primary for the Alabama Senate seat. The primary elections are slated for May 26, 2026, with the general election scheduled for November 3rd.
Strong was previously seen as a potential candidate for the Senate seat due to his recognition in North Alabama and alignment with key conservative issues. His choice to remain in the House may clarify the candidate landscape for those eyeing a run.
While announcements from other potential candidates are anticipated soon, no major individuals have officially entered the Senate race as of Wednesday.
