Fort Huachuca, Arizona – Students celebrated the last day of school with a variety of activities as another school year came to an end.
On Thursday, May 25, students enjoyed a promotion ceremony, delicious treats, and a sprinkler run to cool off on a sunny Arizona day.
The celebrations began with the 8th grade promotion ceremony held at Colonel Smith Middle School, where 73 students took the next step towards their future.
Students heard from multiple speakers during the event, including Dr. Jackie Cray, Cochise County Superintendent of Schools. Promote 8th graders Jairan Battle and Bowen Wood. and Mark Goodman, Superintendent of Fort Huachuca Accommodation School District.
At the ceremony, 15 students were honored as members of the National Junior Honor Society. Those students are Jaira Battle, Abigail Bynum, Jaelyn Espinueva-Sebastian, Anne-Margaret Gacutan, Claire Gilbertson, Madalyn Lane, Sophia Moore, Cadence Sanchez, Andrew Stearns and Dustin Safin. , Natalie Sweet, Kylie Weir, Cara Wilson, Bowen Wood and Gabriella Works. .
Eighth grade Daniel Robison said he is looking forward to summer vacation and going to high school.
“I’m looking forward to relaxing and training on the track in Buena this summer.” [High School] I would like to get a scholarship there,” Robison said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what the honors class is like in high school and seeing all my friends again.”
Late in the afternoon, the USO handed out ice cream and popsicles to children and families in celebration of the end of the school year.
This event, “School’s Out Sweet Treats,” invites children and parents to try out dozens of different ice cream flavors and dozens of different gummy candies, sprinkles, chocolate and caramel syrups, marshmallows, whipped cream, and other delicious treats. You could choose from toppings.
To wrap up the day’s events, the Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Directorate team activated the sprinkler system at Brown Parade Field to signal the start of summer for children and parents.
Children and parents ran through sprinklers, threw soccer balls and played with inflatable beach balls as they celebrated the end of the school year and looked forward to the adventures ahead.
Be extra cautious when driving in the neighborhood and watch out for children as students are on summer break and school is closed.
