The Alabama Republican Party has officially postponed its summer dinner that was set for August 1 in Montgomery. The event was expected to feature Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley as the keynote speaker. Whatley is also running in the North Carolina Senate race in 2026.
In a statement over the weekend, ALGOP Chairman John Wahl explained that the postponement is necessary due to Whatley’s campaign schedule. He extended congratulations to Whatley for starting his campaign journey.
“This is an exciting moment for our party and our country,” Wahl remarked. “Speaker Whatley is a strong conservative leader, and we are behind him as he enters one of the critical races in the nation. We have realigned President Trump’s support to adapt to Whatley’s upcoming schedule and travel commitments.”
“It’s vital to maintain the Republican majority in the Senate, which is crucial for our nation’s future. This has to be our top priority,” he added.

Whatley served as the chairman of the North Carolina GOP from 2019 until March 2024 before becoming an advisor to the RNC and eventually taking on its leadership role.
According to ALGOP, the party is in the process of rescheduling the summer dinners and will provide updated information as soon as it’s available. All tickets and sponsorships will either be refunded or honored for the new dates.
“We are thankful for the understanding and ongoing support from our members and grassroots supporters,” Wahl stated. “Together, we are generating momentum to elect strong conservative leaders and uphold our values both in Alabama and nationwide.”
