Super Bowl 2023: Phoenix impressed fans who came out for the big game

The Chiefs defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday night, but the Valley were also big winners.

what’s happening: Phoenix and other cities will continue to enjoy the exposure and tax revenue that big guys bring to town.

Heard: Christa Quick and Maurice Quick, Eagles fans from Biloxi, Mississippi, said the Uber drivers in Phoenix were the friendliest they’ve ever met.

  • “I thought the city was ready to put on a great show. It was really organized,” said Calvin Rix of Overland Park, Kansas.

Line spacing: Visitors have taken advantage of everything we have to offer.

  • Traveling from Philadelphia for the game, Chris Henry, Skip Henry, and Holly Bibler hiked Tom’s Thumb and enjoyed Scottsdale’s restaurant scene.
  • Father-son Eagles fans Nick and Charlie Troxell spent Thursday night at Old Town Scottsdale, Friday at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and Saturday at the Super Bowl Experience in downtown Phoenix.
  • “We partied. We gambled. We partied some more,” said Evan Lazarus, who stayed at the Eagles’ team hotel, the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass.

Yes, but: Some visitors learned about the extent of the valley the hard way.

  • Chiefs fans Karen and Mark Bustamante from Orange County, California, booked a room at the Drury Inn & Suites Phoenix Chandler Fashion Center, not knowing it was 40 minutes from the stadium.
  • But it all worked out because parking at the game was a lot easier than you’d expect from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

By numbers: Philadelphia fans far outnumbered Chiefs fans at State Farm Stadium.

1 Celebrity Sightings: Chris Bianco’s award-winning pizza was not only served at the exclusive Club 57 Party outside State Farm Stadium, but also served by the superstar chef himself.

  • Roberto Fierro, who traveled from Tijuana, Mexico for the match, said he served vegetables and pepperoni slices “out of 10.”

1 What to bet: Jeremy signed up with FanDuel and made the first legal sports bet in Arizona.

  • His original bet was that either Travis Kelce of the Chiefs or Miles Saunders of the Eagles would score the first touchdown of the game, but he lost.
  • To be absurd, he bet that both Kelce brothers would score a touchdown. This would have required the first touchdown by an offensive lineman in Super Bowl history.
  • Most of his bets have been unsuccessful, but he has won at least one bet on a defensive or special teams touchdown.
