Super Regionals: 1A teams battle for state tourney berth | Williams-Grand Canyon News

WILLIAMS, Arizona — The 1A conference team’s regular season ended last week. Next up is the Super Regional Tournament, which will determine the top teams heading to the 1A State Championship.

Teams from each region will play matches this week in Super Regionals. Locally, this includes the 1A Canyon Region and 1A North Region teams. The first match he played on January 30th. The top two finishers from each region will receive automatic byes in the first round. All games are held at highly seeded sites. The top six girls in the 1A Canyon region in ranking order are Williams (10-0), Grand Canyon (6-4), Fredonia (6-4), Ash Fork (5-5) and El Capitan (3-7). ) and Seligman (0-10). Qualifying teams for the 1A North region are Rock Point (5-0), St. Michaels (4-1), Red Mesa (2-4) and Basis Flagstaff (0-6).

On February 1st, Williams (No. 1) will take on the winners of the Basis Flagstaff (No. 4) and El Capitan (No. 5) contests. Fredonia (3rd) plays St. Michaels (2nd). The Grand Canyon (2nd) will face the winners of Fredonia (3rd) and Seligman (6th). The final match was between Ashfork (4th place) and Rockpoint (1st place).

The winner will advance to the Super Regional Finals on February 4th in St. Michael.

Eleven teams are participating in the 1A North and 1A Canyon Boys Super Regionals. The 1A Canyon region teams are El Capitan (9-0), Williams (8-2), Seligman (6-3), Grand Canyon (3-7), Ash Fork (2-8) and Fredonia (1-1). ) am. 9). The 1A North teams are Basis Flagstaff (6-0), Rock Point (5-2), St. Michael (3-3), Red Mesa (2-5) and Shonto Prep (0-6).

Similar to the women’s bracket, the top six teams from each region will compete in this week’s game. 5 teams from 1A North. The men’s first match he played was on January 31st. Matches will be held at higher seeded locations.

The winner advanced to the second round on February 2nd. 1A Canyon No. 1 will host the winner of the match between Red Mesa and Ash Fork. Seligman (No. 3) plays Rock Point (No. 2). Williams (2nd) will host the winner of the St. Michael-Fredonia match. The final match will be between Basis Flagstaff (No. 1) and the winners of Grand Canyon and Shoonto Prep.

The winners of these games will advance to the Super Regional Finals on February 4th in St. Michael. The top finishers advance to the state tournament in Prescott.
