The budget increased by 15% from last year, but the regulator did not raise the tax rate
YUMA, Arizona (KECY, KYMA) – A $577.5 million county budget was unanimously approved on Monday.
That’s a 15% increase over last year, but the Yuma County Board of Supervisors didn’t raise the tax rate. This year’s budget increase is due to rising real estate values around the county.
Owners of homes worth about $130,000 could expect to pay an additional $22 in property taxes this year, the county said.
The county is doing its best to offset that increase by lowering the General Fund tax rate and keeping the tax below the maximum tax rate allowed.
“For the past 11 years, the board has adopted levies well below the allowable amount,” said county administrator Ian McGaggie.
The budget also includes employee pay increases, road repairs and funding for nonprofits.
