Public support for Black Lives Matter (BLM) A Pew Research poll released Wednesday showed public migration is at its lowest level since George Floyd’s death in May 2020.

Most Americans do not believe BLM is effective in achieving its goals, with 32% saying it is very effective in calling attention to racism. Only 14% said the campaign made police more accountable, and 8% said it improved life for blacks. Only 7% believe that BLM activities have improved race relations, and 31% of respondents said they understood the goals very or well.
Favorability towards BLM varies by race, age and political affiliation. 81% of black adults support the movement compared to 42% of white adults. Sixty-one percent of Hispanic adults support BLM, as do 63% of Asians. (Related: Report: Black Lives Matter Revenues to Decline 88% in 2022)
BLM is supported by 64% of adults aged 18-29 and 52% of those aged 30-49. 46% of those aged 50-64 and 41% of adults aged 65 and over are less than half.
The movement has been a major source of division between factions. 84% of Democrats and Democrats are in favor of BLM, while 82% of Republicans and Republican-leanings are against it.
About 9 in 10 Americans, 88%, have seen videos of alleged police violence against black people on social media, and 45% think it’s a good thing that those videos are shared widely. there is Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe video is holding police accountable, but 54% say video makes it harder for police to do their job.

The death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer in May 2020 sparked months of protests and riots by BLM activists calling for defunding the city’s police force. Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison in June 2021 for the murder of Floyd.
