A Los Angeles man appeared to engage police in an exchange of gunfire at the suspect's apartment on Tuesday, according to surveillance video released by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) late Thursday.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers were responding to a 9-1-1 call from a female neighbor who said Anthony Franks, 42, had allegedly pointed a gun at her. statement. The Los Angeles Police Department added that a female neighbor contacted police directly at the time of the incident. The video showed Franks opening the door and firing, apparently at his neighbor and the police officer.
According to the statement, reserve police officers arrived at the scene. Franks “was not struck by gunfire and immediately returned to his apartment,” but was arrested “without further incident,” ending the “brief standoff,” LAPD added. Franks' murder weapon was determined to be a projectile that resembled a pistol and was “capable of firing a .50 caliber rubber ball,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement. Police reportedly recovered a projectile launcher, a “bottle of .50 caliber rubber balls” and a “Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun” from Franks' apartment, all of which were kept as evidence.
Neither the officer nor the neighbor was injured in the shootout, according to the release.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Police Department Investigations Division was investigating the incident.
