Suspect in custody following shooting in Winslow | Navajo-Hopi Observer

Winslow, Arizona – At 2:10 PM on March 18, 2023, police were dispatched to West Fleming 1217 due to disturbance.

During an investigation, it was discovered that 23-year-old Jose Luis Rivera Jr. had been shot. The shooting occurred at a residence at 1609 West Fourth Street. Rivera refused to be taken by ambulance and was taken by private vehicle to the emergency room at Little’s Colorado Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. He was released from the hospital later that day.

The shooter, who fled the area on foot, was arrested by police within minutes of the incident. He was identified as 22-year-old Anthony Michael Sandwall. Sandwall was incarcerated at the Navajo County Jail in Holbrook on charges of aggravated assault and endangerment.
