TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A man was killed in a shooting involving a police officer in Tucson late Friday night, March 3.
Officers at the Tucson Police Department were looking for a suspect for aggravated assault. The suspect also had a warrant for violating probation.
Operations Department’s Midtown Community Response Team called for SWAT’s help to stop the suspect near East Grant Road and North Park Avenue shortly before 11:30 pm.
The suspect fled at high speed in his car, but the chase ended when the suspect’s car collided with another vehicle near North Campbell Avenue and East Grant Road, Tucson police said.
Police say a shootout was exchanged between the officers and the suspect after the officers pulled out their guns as they approached the car.
The suspect was shot by police and later pronounced dead at the scene.
No police officers were injured in the incident.
A woman in the suspect’s vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital for treatment, police said.
The Pima Regional Serious Incidents Team will be activated, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office will lead the criminal investigation.
TPD also conducts its own investigations to determine whether a policy violation has occurred.
