Sykes presented with career award by National Wild Turkey Federation

The National Wild Turkey Foundation recognized Chuck Sykes, state director of the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Service, for his decades-long career in conservation.

“I am honored to receive the CB McLeod Award from my colleagues at the National Wild Turkey Federation,” said Sykes.

The award is named after CB McLeod, former NWTF national board member and prominent turkey conservationist. Awarded to individuals who have dedicated their lives to protecting wildlife.

“During my time as department director, NWTF and the Alabama Chapter have been unwavering supporters of turkey conservation, turkey hunting, and our department,” Sykes said. “Throughout my career, I have strived to share my passion for wildlife conservation and hunting with those who are interested. It is especially meaningful to be recognized by an organization that shares the same passion.

“We thank the NWTF for their continued efforts to preserve America’s hunting traditions.”

Foundation co-CEO Kurt Dyroff praised Sykes' hard work to the organization.

“Chuck is a leader among leaders in conservation,” Dyroff said. “He is a great friend of the NWTF and as a steward of its resources, he understands the importance of his role in the future of the NWTF’s mission and the leadership needed at the local, state and national levels.

“We are honored to present him with the prestigious CB McLeod Award for his work with wild turkeys and more.”

Since its founding in 1973, NWTF has invested more than $500 million in wildlife conservation and impacted more than 23 million acres of critical wildlife habitat.

NWTF has also invested more than $9 million in wild turkey research to manage wild turkey populations and ensure sustainable populations.
