Takeaways from the Annual State of the Air Report

of of the American Lung Association The annual State of The Air report was released Wednesday and shows that there is room for improvement in fighting Arizona’s high ozone and particulate pollution.

The report shows that compared to last year’s report, Arizona had fewer unhealthy days of ozone and particulate pollution statewide in the period 2019-2021. still rated “F” for unhealthy ozone day. They are Gila, Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties.

Yuma County received a ā€œCā€ rating, while La Paz and Coconino counties both improved.

Flagstaff has been named one of the cleanest places in the state for ozone pollution.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality says high levels of ozone and particulate pollution pose a public health hazard.

In a statement to the ALA report, Daniel Czecholinski, ADEQ Air Quality Director, said: While the state has improved its air quality over the last 30 years, wildfires in the western United States are causing ozone and particulate pollution throughout the region.
