Taylor Hicks Endorses Senator Tuberville for Governor of Alabama

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) has garnered significant support from major state organizations, and now he’s receiving backing from Birmingham native and Season 5 American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, in the upcoming 2026 Alabama Governor’s race.

During a recent appearance on “Alabama Morning News with JT,” Hicks articulated his endorsement of Tuberville, emphasizing the necessity for improved education in the state. This marks the first time Hicks has publicly supported a political candidate.

“I think Senator Tuberville is the best candidate for Governor of Alabama, and I fully support him,” Hicks expressed.

He continued, “I’ve known Senator Tuberville for about 10 or 15 years. First and foremost, he’s an educator. Remember, he was Auburn’s coach, deeply involved in education there. I appreciate his plans to strengthen state education. As I travel around the country, I see firsthand the performance of schools and the state of education. We, in Alabama, really need to ensure our children’s well-being. I believe the coach can make that happen.”

Hicks also noted that Tuberville’s support would extend towards promoting Alabama’s agricultural and economic interests. “Don’t forget about our farmers. I had the chance to meet many farmers nationwide, and I believe looking after Alabama’s farmers is just as crucial as caring for our kids,” he said.

Expressing his confidence in Tuberville’s leadership potential, Hicks stated, “He’s the best candidate for governor. Not only is he a great guy, but I’ve done my homework. I think he’s doing a fantastic job as a senator.”

“He’s also a fun guy who enjoys playing golf…He has a good sense of humor, too.”

The Alabama Republican primary is set for May 19, 2026.
