“I've been thinking about it for a while. It's something that's been bothering me,” the boy reportedly later told the Carabinelli in tears. The boy also reportedly exhibited “fatigue,” and the confession could lead to a psychiatric evaluation.
“I thought I could kill him with one stab but then I realised that wasn't the case,” the suspect reportedly told investigators, adding that he acted quickly to prevent the victim from suffering.
Ricardo also said he had listened intently to The Beatles' 1970 song “The Long and Winding Road” in the days before the murders, particularly the lyrics “So many times I've been alone / So many times I've cried”, and that he wanted to fight in Ukraine.
“The boy understood he had done something irreparable,” Sabrina DiTalanto of the minors prosecutor's office told reporters, according to Il Messero newspaper.
DiTalanto reportedly said Liccardo's motive was unclear.
“I felt oppressed,” Ricardo reportedly told investigators. “I felt like a foreign object in my family. I thought that if I killed them all, I would be free from this discomfort.”
“A minute later I realized, killing them won't free me,” he reportedly added.
According to Il Messagero, Riccardo was being held at the Beccaria juvenile detention center.
Friends of Ricardo were quoted as telling the media that he was a good boy, studied hard, was not a drug user and never argued with anyone, while a neighbour also said the murder was puzzling.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reportedly said the triple murder was “beyond imagination.”
