Teen killed in crash on Tucson’s NW side

An 18-year-old boy was killed in a three-vehicle crash in northwest Tucson Wednesday night.

The crash occurred at the intersection of North La Chola Boulevard and North McCarty Road, north of West McGee Road, around 7:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Pima County Sheriff's Office.

There were three adults and one minor in the lead vehicle. Passenger Gael Carrasco died in the accident. The driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, the statement said.

The two adults in the second vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. And the sole resident in the third care was not injured.

Deputies said the first car was heading north on La Jolla, possibly without its headlights on, when it collided with a second car turning right onto McCarty Road.

The third vehicle struck debris on the road and was disabled, according to the release.

The investigation continues.
